Although Salina Community Theatre is still selecting productions for its 2017-18 season, the theatre has secured the rights for two musical that will have special importance to its patrons and subscribers.
The first is Tuck Everlasting, the recent Broadway musical with lyrics by Salina’s own Nathan Tysen. Because of our close association with Nathan, this is especially exciting for us. We also have asked Kate Lindsay to direct. Kate has not only Nathan’s high school drama teacher, but she has seen the show in both Atlanta and on Broadway. This special knowledge puts her in an unique position to bring so much to the production.” Tuck will also be the third partnership production with the Musical Theatre Department at Kansas Wesleyan University.
The second musical is Mamma Mia. The theatre has been waiting for years to secure the rights to this show, and will be one of the first community theatres to produce this world-wide sensation. Using the music of the rock group Abba, Mamma Mia tells the story of Donna and her daughter Sophie on the days leading up to the young woman’s wedding. Incorporating such songs as “Mamma Mia,” “Super Trooper,” “Lay Your Love on Me” and more, this musical had fans on their feet long before the curtain call. We are so excited to be able to present this production, and because we always bring great music, full sets, spectacular costumes, and the best dance in central Kansas to our audiences, this show will be a great season closer.
Stay tuned for more information about the shows included in the 2017-18 season.
