The Glass Menagerie’s guest director, Tyrees Allen, is a professional actor with longtime ties to Salina. He attended Salina Central High School, graduated from Marymount College, and began practicing his craft at Salina Community Theatre.
Mr. Allen’s stage credits include two Tony Award-winning Broadway plays: the musical Aida and the revival of Henry IV. He played the title role in Othello at The Old Globe in San Diego, for which he won the Drama League Award for Best Actor, and played Colin Powell in the American premiere of Stuff Happens at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. Most recently, he played Mr. Chuck in the world premiere of Jonathan Norton’s Mississippi Goddamn at the South Dallas Cultural Center.
In addition to roles in the theatre, Mr. Allen has also been featured on the small screen. He was a regular on the television shows Women’s Murder Club and Dark Blue, has had recurring roles on The Practice, Close to Home, and Alias, and has been a guest star on Scandal, Castle, Revolution, Cold Case, Medium, NCIS, and Grey’s Anatomy.
Mr. Allen is thrilled to be directing here at SCT — where it all started.
